Best of EICMA 2018 (secondo me)

At the end of a long week of work like that of EICMA 2018 Shooting usually sums. I take pen and notebook and do a mega riassuntone on the things that I have been more impressed, what are the most interesting sights in the motorcycle event chaos. here it is.

The International Exhibition of the Cycle, Motorcycle and Accessories (EICMA) This year has seen the usual presentation of several new homes even though they are shown in a certain way cautious. The uncertainty due to the arrival of new and more stringent emission regulations has probably played a non-negligible role and therefore have not seen, except in rare cases, great leaps, but rather new models already expected as KTM 790 Adventure, the Yamaha Ténéré 700 one to BMW S 1000 RR.

I have already explained why I think the queen is the EICMA Harley-Davidson LiveWire in this article (which of course I invite you to read).

It does not mean that there have not been other interesting news, on the contrary! Let's review quickly what impressed me the most.

MV Agusta Superveloce

It was certainly one of the most unexpected innovations like EICMA and one of the most fascinating recent history of MV Agusta. It is a mainly stylistic work carried out on F3, but the response was so enthusiastic that the House in the coming months will be involved in assessing the actual production.

I like it because it manages to be unmistakably an MV Agusta while moving away from some typical brand styles. Evocative while looking to the future.

Honda CB 125M e CB 125X

Put almost by chance among up adjustments and the new Honda range, there were these two very interesting prototypes. Clean lines and clean combined with simple mechanics and small-displacement. Usually prototypes feature large cavalry and yet in this case, Honda has been working on a proposal capable of hitting the younger crowd starting from the successful CB 125 R.

The CB 125 M It is a motard with wheels 17″ (slick) and a sporty look, slim and well balanced.

The CB 125 X is a dual sport agile and light which recalls in some places but the progenitor Africa Twin, at the same time, It is far less soft and more minimalist. Both Honda seem to have done Erasmus in Sweden…

Husqvarna Vitpilen Aero

About Swedish school, as well as presenting the final version of Svartpilen 701 (I want her!), Husqvarna reveals, or rather re-unveils Aero concept, road version of Vitpilen 701. The continuous stylistic refinement work by the brand is truly remarkable and is setting new directions. The Aero is really pussy. But I still do not understand why there needs to be two versions of the same concept to a year away.

Royal Enfield KX concept

In India they must have made some exciting: After revolutionizing all their traditions with the production of an in-line two-cylinder, now those of Royal Enfield crashing another taboo and even propose a concept with V.twin! In fact already the beauty of eighty years ago, Royal Enfield had a bike with V-Twin 1.140 cc, so this beautiful bobber from 838 cc can be considered a tribute to the progenitor. Unlike the usual, In this concept the Indians have gone in a more modern interpretation, almost futuristic, as if to underline that this is not a model that anticipates production, but only to a study. I always thought they were more concrete and leave us Europeans these ruminations designer, why do not convince me to 100%. Also because the engine would be developed in collaboration with Polaris who happens to be the owner of Indian Eicher Motor as well as partners, company that holds the majority of Royal Enfield.

Fantic Caballero ECAB

Fantic has EICMA exposed to the concept of an electric moped called Issimo, very nice, and above this E-Cab, concept of an electric Caballero. The aesthetic remains faithful to that of Caballero managed latest generation in key magazine “futuristic”, but the soul is all electric. The result seems valuable, but we will have to wait a couple of years before you see it in final form on our roads. Come la LiveWire per Harley-Davidson, Also this E-Cab for Fantic should become the first of a range of electric vehicles. For now, the brushless motor 11 kW is powered by a battery 7,5 kWh which should according to the House guarantee 150 km range (in practice as the Zero Motorcycles FX). Content weight: 147 kg.

Kymco Super NEX

Kymco is working sull'elettrico as already evidenced by last year the project IoNEX. For the first time, however,, setting out its intentions to ride the electrification to engage in high-performance motorcycles with Super NEX a hyper sport 250 kilometers per hour. It is a concept, but the Koreans claim remarkable results in tests, with one 0-100 less than three seconds. The Super NEX has a six-speed gearbox, slipper clutch and technicians would also developed a way to make it “whirr” as a combustion motorbike, customizable according to the tastes of the pilot. This aspect leaves me a bit’ skeptical, but otherwise it is a very interesting project and we understand that with the possible transition to electric even the brands that we know could change things and positioning.

Arc Vector

The most futuristic prototype of EICMA 2018 and the Vector of Arc. Do not worry if you do not know what the hell I'm talking about: Arc is not a known brand, but a British engineer startup Marc Truman that after a long experience in Jaguar he has decided to put together a team of boffins of the bike to make an electric sports car. On paper this Vector waste all the competition so far known to scream performance: engine 103 kW, battery 16,8 kWh for autonomy from 200 km over 400, charging time in just 30 minutes to fast columns, four driving modes and Couple of 292 Nm (!!!) The vector would also be able to connect with helmet and communicate with the driver through a head-up display (analogously to CrossHelmet). In addition to being a missile from 240 km / h will be a toy for a few, al prezzo di 90.000 a sterling, if you prefer, 115.000 dollars. Personally I'm a little’ perplexed and I do not think we will see the street Vector (provided that the data are accurate), but it is worth quoting because in fact the bike is the most futuristic of this hall.

Honorable mention

Finally I would like to dedicate a special mention to some bike that I liked particularly. Among them there are definitely Triumph Scrambler 1200 and Bonneville T120 Diamond Edition, but also add the Indian FTR 1200, an affordable product. As for waiting KTM 790 Adventure and Yamaha Ténéré 700, instead, lights and shadows. The KTM I plot, but I want to see better in an open space: the stand was a little’ sacrificed and aesthetically has not convinced me to 100%. Successful instead of the windshield and the Ténéré line, but in this case does not fully convince me is the cost of some details. We will know more in the coming months when they start to use on the road!
