Motorcycle books: five reading tips for the Christmas holidays

What to read during the Christmas holidays? Here are some readings for motorcyclists recommended by friend Fabio Bianchi, author of Youth Motorcycle Literature.

The Christmas holidays are one of the most beautiful times of the year for… Light! If you follow me you know that I love reading and when the days get shorter, the air gets cold and in other words you don't ride a motorbike much, I enjoy a good book even more willingly in the warmth of the home.

So it's certainly not the first time I've prepared a post on reading recommendations (eg this about fundamental travel books is historical!) and we know that in reality there are never enough ideas. Whether the book is for us, to relax during the Christmas period, whether it be a last minute gift you can never have too much good advice, giusto?

So I thought I'd involve my friend Fabio Bianchi, author of Youth Motorcycle Literature who, in addition to being an avid reader and a member of the Ligurian Association of Youth Literature, has collected a lot of information on motorcycle publications for his essay as he told us in this live interview. And this time I asked him to point out five titles and give us his motivation. Eccoli:

Miriam Orlandi, I'm leaving. Alone with my motorbike

Recommended because:

Miriam Orlandi, today a followed and well-known voice among motorcyclists, tells his journey 23 months alone during which he traveled 53.000 km riding the classic BMW R 80 Gs del 1991 across the Americas. A book that I recommend because there is plenty of advice on unconventional resourcefulness, motivational references on how to dare, set yourself goals in the name of adventure and how to escape from the limiting spaces of an alienating life, frenetic and repetitive.(F.B.)

Roberto Roda, The Horsemen and steamers of the apocalypse

  • Publication: Publisher Festina Lente, 2013
  • Pages 186
  • Prezzo 20 Euro
  • For who is it: for adults
  • Link to purchase

Recommended because:

This essay by Roberto Roda transports the reader into a postmodern cultural fascination labyrinth, where the scenarios present in youth cultures emerge, in fashions and arts related to the world of motorcycles. Ideal for lovers of edifying academic anthropological essays, they tease, orient thought and fuel considerations linked to medieval technical artefacts, science fiction until it leads to the post-apocalyptic. (F.B.)

Lorenzo Franchini, Where the world ends

  • Publication: publisher AlpineStudio, Lecco, 2019
  • Pages 374
  • Prezzo 16,4 Euro
  • For who is it: for all
  • Link to purchase

Recommended because:

Lorenzo Franchini's is a practical autobiography, experiential and concrete, in which he narrates the collective travel undertaking of a group of 23 Vespist. We met casually on the web among the comments of a forum, they decide cheerfully, impulsiveness and a hint of recklessness to organize and undertake an epic journey together 5000 Km obviously by Vespa. This book is recommended because it is a genuine story that shows how real experiences can then arise from a virtual meeting caused by a common interest., authentic friendships and real solidarity. Ermilio Pezzopane, Motocross Planet. Italian cross '70s/'80s

  • Publication: editore Youcanprint, Lecce, 2018
  • Pages 360 pages
  • Prezzo 73 Euro
  • For who is it: for all
  • Link to purchase

Recommended because

Pianeta Motocross by Pezzopane is dispassionately recommended because it is a complete book, exhaustive, at times encyclopedic and certainly one of a kind in the national panorama; created with true expertise and documentary historical knowledge and timeless passion by a direct witness of Italian motorcycling. The purchase price is high, but justified by the care with which this volume was created and the richness of the contents. The passionate enthusiast of this specific motorcycling discipline will certainly appreciate it. (F.B.)

Luca Doveri, Theseus and the talking Wasp

  • Publication: publisher EdiGiò, Modena, 2020
  • Pages 62 pages
  • Prezzo 13 Euro
  • For who is it: for children (4-6 years)
  • Link to purchase

Recommended because

Telling a child about motorcycling can be tricky, but Doveri skillfully manages to narrate the meeting of a child named Teseo with Molly, a magical anthropomorphic and talking Vespa together with whom he embarks on exciting adventures. (F.B.)
