Lo Scrambler Gate continua: Umberto Borile send an open letter to Claudio Domenicali, CEO Ducati. Here it is.

The Scrambler Gate between Borile Ducati yesterday and has been enriched by a passage nodal communication with the Ordinary Court of Bologna (read here).

Today comes, always by Borile Motorcycles, a new press release that contains an open letter to Ducati. This is not a message between companies, but between people.

Read my interview with Umberto Borile at the time of the presentation of its B450 Scrambler >

Umberto Borile, with humanity that always distinguished him, send a message to Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati, with the desire to shed light on the issue and animated by the desire to get satisfaction in a lack of respect for their work.

I do not want to add anything personal to the question and I will only leave the floor to Borile Umberto and his open letter to Claudio Domenicali, CEO Ducati below carry full.

Dear Ing. Claudio Domenicali,

let me give you the she, a bit 'unusual among motorcyclists ... usually you by the you, but I consider this, let me, My sbaglierò, but think so.

Let me start by 1988, when Franco Farnè, I met with Eng. Fabio Taglioni at Carlo Mazzuccato Este, then importer of Jawa speedway, phoned me.

He asked me if I had been able to bring the oil model Ducati 851 off engine, pass it through a radiator and send him back inside. He asked me because then I imported fittings and pipes of the Earl's and Goodridge, and a mutual friend told him that I had everything needed to make such an operation.

I will not hide, Engineer, that I was excited, not so much for earnings (I have not taken a penny), but for the fact that I'd entered the racing division Ducati, I would have solved a problem in Ducati. Almost did not believe it. I remember, until I worked around this 851, there was an old man with half a cigar in his mouth that was beating a sheet, it was rolling by hand with a hammer, helped by an anvil, to make it a trumpet exhaust. A memory so fascinating, that Serbia is still in my heart.

They took me to lunch, and I found myself at the table with Gianluigi Mengoli, Farnè and other, and do not hide the fact that at that moment I felt the most important person on earth.

Returning to work, shot with my fittings and pipes to finish what I considered an honor.

It took all my best manual work, together with the great passion for motorcycles, and managed to finish before dark, and I felt like it had come out of a masterpiece.

I received compliments from all, and for me that was worth more than anything else in the world.

Engineer think that my love for Ducati was still rooted in 1972, when I regularity races with RT 450, lacked only this work on 851 to consecrate and virtually definitely "a man Ducati".

When, in 2010, I had the idea of remaking the legendary Scrambler 450, I talked with Dr.. Del Torchio, I went to find him taking me a drawing of how I interpreted, just asking to have access to the supply of thermal units.

When I showed him the drawings, pleased him so much as to come at once to his office the executive management of Ducati, and all caldeggiarono operation. Ducati did not spend a euro, indeed earned selling me thermals and you never know what tomorrow, if my engine had proved reliable, could not be interested in taking over and remake so the legendary Ducati Scrambler 450.

Do you think, Engineer, I entered so strongly in sympathy management, that that day they took me to see what no one was allowed to see: prototypes that in a few years would come to life on the streets. I saw the Diavel that no "normal" man had yet seen.

He was drafted by Ducati a supply contract of thermal units rear 1100 and 696 from which we derived the model 450 and the model 350 and was even given to my company granting the use of the brand Scrambler. We signed jointly, between smiles and handshakes, the promised, as they desire, that the first to try it would be their. I returned home happy like a child.

My partners welcomed the news celebrating and financed the project with enthusiasm.

I turned to old friend and great coach Francesco Villa: he had in his veins a little 'blood Ducati, avendoci worked in 1955, right in the racing department, with l'Ing. Taglioni.

I saw him happy to undertake, to almost 80 years, a new adventure motoring.

We began working on the drawings, then models, then on mergers, etc..

In 2011 EICMA we presented the preliminary model of what would be our interpretation of the legendary Scrambler. No need to remember what happened that Le met the bike, defined, by a journalist Mediaset, the finest of EICMA 2011. Also got, right there EICMA, consent to give even a Ducati dealers, asking our Scrambler. We were delighted.

Began our road tests, until the day came that, as promised, we went to try it for Ducati.

Shortly thereafter, Also we organized the tests with the press, in the period in which Dr. Del Torchio left Ducati to a new working adventure and arrived Lei.

From that day there was the frost between Ducati and Borile.

I never understood why.

I never understood why you did not call me and said something, not that it was required to do so, of course, but a gentleman would do. There is still a bit 'of dignity or not? Also because then, if we put it on the market, My company has invested a lot of money to make a motor around groups thermal Ducati and launch the project Scrambler, as agreed sayings and writings, without taking into account the hours, nights, technicians and kilometers dedicated to this project.

But even leaving aside the fact that you were floated the idea of making the Scrambler, and I do not think that this idea is coming because he has seen the success of our – I hope that in Ducati there is need this otherwise it means "to be the fruit" – but we gave the hassle? They were and are two different bikes, but the project to invest on a review of the Scrambler is my, because this evil?

We do not make bikes to enrich, but do it for passion, I is not telling me what to do marketing, but my heart.

Believe me, Engineer, in the course of my life I have found to deal with the most evil of fate that a man, a parent, can bear. Everything that happens now I do not even touch.

But the evil, despite everything, I still can not understand them.

With best regards

Umberto Borile
