I'm ready for Ladakh?

Less than a month to my adventure in Ladakh / Zanskar. I make the point, not only on my lack of fitness.

The 13 I have a flight for August New Delhi. Thence, first by train and then by a van, catch up Manali where I expect a Royal Enfield Classic 500. I will not be alone: my task is indeed to document the first expedition in Ladakh and Kashmir the Marco Polo Team. Ai 4 Centaurs Veneto (con me 5) This time we will add more 7 motorcyclists who will follow the footsteps on the steps vehicular highest in the world. We will overcome quota 5.000 meters, cross this strange desert at high altitude, sleeping in a tent on the steps… In short it will be a wonderful adventure.

We are not the first or the only ones to make a motorcycle trip of this kind and in these areas and the Marco Polo Team has made other “businesses” rightly worthy of fame far more sensational. However, it will not be a simple thing and will spend about three weeks to make the route that we have set ourselves. We'll have to fend with the problems of high altitude and mountain, with long distances between one village and another, with the total absence of comfort to which we are accustomed. We chose to go in North India to show the incredible beauty of the “land of high passes” (this means Ladakh) and give visibility and solidarity to those living in these isolated villages for most of the year. With this mission, in fact, give a hand to At the Zanskar Help, non-profit organization which focuses on child education.

With less than a month from the start I look in the mirror and I deal with a physical form as a clerk in his sixties and a list of useful equipment to carry around. Flying on the first, carry a second thinking it might be handy to those who are preparing for such an adventure:

  • international driving license (eye to go in India it takes that of the Geneva Convention of 1949 not that of the 1968)
  • Canon HD camera, small and loyal companion, with appurtenances (microphone, Chargers, protective filter, etc)
  • maxi batteries for camera (2)
  • GoPro (2) with various attacks: handlebars, Town, treppiede.
  • treppiede… obvious. I carry one small and lightweight that he is in the saddlebag of the motorcycle.
  • monopiede (when you're in a hurry it is more comfortable and then you can use it as a makeshift steadicam)
  • action mount per GoPro, a gem that is on the network and allows you to attach a GoPro virtually anywhere (costs about 30 €)
  • SD cards as if grandinassero. Once there were bins, ora le SD da 8 GB o 16 GB. Better not take the greatest: if you lose or damage so forgive us less and less money shot. Its 16 GB There are, however, 4 hours of footage… if you think so little.
  • auxiliary battery with USB connections. There are varying amperage: Best to arrive 12000 mAh and have up to 4 porte USB. The load current, and then, when serving, it attacks your devices.
  • netbook battle for video backup (hope my old man can withstand yet another trip)
  • Plastic bags, always serve: divide and above all are waterproof.
  • backpack sturdy and waterproof.

Equipment from moticiclista and extras will talk about later.

  1. Hello!
Since we like to look for trouble, depart for the North India in mid-February…
    45 days wandering.
In your opinion how far we could go in motion before being destroyed by the cold?
