After seven years of honorable service, the good old Motoreetto.it site is retiring and a new one arrives: there he is! Spero ti piaccia.
The new Motoreetto website: perché?
At least once a year for the last five years I thought “Now let's fix the whole site, I'll do it again”. It's just the version 1.0 I didn't like Motoreetto.it, but it's part of my nature to always try to improve what I do, to raise the level. The further I went, however, the more complicated it became: new content, new formats, more and more articles and videos published that would have needed to be fixed… In short, a real mess.
Furthermore, as time went by I became more and more fond of that minimalist layout which I have always felt was an adequate business card for what I do..
And then how to do it? What to add without distorting? It's not just a graphic issue.
Then came the coronavirus, quarantine, the forced stop to motorbike riding but also to all other activities (I haven't run or cycled in over two months, I can barely walk now) and on my desk I found the notes on the site. I go back to thinking about what's wrong and… And here we are.
The 5 May 2020 the PHASE 2 of the Motoreetto.it website is ready for launch.
Please excuse if there are still some imperfections in the layout, the time to pick up all the articles and little by little everything will be alright.
What changes with the new Motoreetto.it website?
A graphics refresh was mandatory to keep up with the times, but obviously there is not only this. I also worked on cataloging the items doing a bit’ of order. With time, dealing with different topics, there had been some mess here and there and I tried to rationalize everything. I will continue to work on this even after publication, over time, therefore any advice is always welcome.
In the macro container “BLOG” you will find all the articles divided by topic:
- The reviews: I review bikes and equipment but only after trying them. I'm talking about both the most coveted products and the lesser-known ones, with particular attention to news, providing an informed and frank point of view.
- The inspirations: video travel stories on two wheels but also meetings and interviews with motociclisti. Inspirations are exactly that, inspirations.
- Electric: I like the classic, but the future stimulates me. I was among the first motorcyclists to approach electric with intellectual honesty and I continue to do so.
- Stories in motion,it: and an episode podcast (and soon an ebook) in which I tell stories of motorcyclists who have impressed me and generally include them in the macro history of motorcycling
- How to do it: here are quick tips and tutorials on how to choose equipment or carry out small maintenance on the motorbike
- Routes: over the years I have noted down some places and roads that I have visited and which I recommend, complete with a map, restaurants, hotels…
Sottolineo – bring patience is my only pride – that all contents are original and self-produced by the undersigned.
I wanted to keep an interface as similar as possible to the previous one so as not to upset the habits of those who already frequented the site (and mine!), but I added some elements and as you will notice I tried to give even more emphasis to my main content principles: i video.
The phase begins 2 to grow
But redoing the site was also the long-delayed opportunity to put some mental order in order and put things back together’ “things okay”. For this reason I have inserted some new dedicated pages to those arriving on the site for the first time, both to those who are regular visitors and maybe you're wondering like this site “carry on”.
Yes, because at the end of the day it is useless to waste time talking… you have to do the math!
From the beginning I decided that this site would be “banner free”. I hate banners and find them of little use to readers. Personally I find them very annoying and intrusive on online publications, they cover a good part of the content I'm reading and when I have the chance I'm willing to subscribe to the site I consult and which I consider worthy just to not have them under my feet.
I know well that a site has expenses just for existing and functioning (unlike an Instagram account where you only pay for automations and sponsorships…), let alone when it becomes, as in this case, a real job. In short… Motoreetto.it also needs bad money to stand and aim to grow.
The solution is a subscription?
However, this would also mean closure. I have always tried to spread information and motorcycling culture and to spread there are no restrictions. You have to open, not close. Everything I publish is always published. Available free to everyone at any time. And so it will remain.
This is why I thought of the formula dell’voluntary subscription.
A po’ crowdfunding, a powder’ monthly subscription to a service that interests you (like Spotify or Netflix), it's the best way I've found to ask for your support and make you participate even more of the life of this site.
It is not a donation, I've never liked receiving gifts without giving them back. Therefore this subscription is structured to multiple levels and for each one it offers different rewards. The more you invest in the site the higher your engagement will be, also physical and material. On the page Join the Clan I'll explain a little’ more details, I would be happy if you took the time to delve deeper.
This is certainly the biggest news of this Phase 2 perché – hope – it will have an impact on stabilizing publications and being able to have resources to plan future activities better than what has been done so far.
But now it's your turn, let me know what you think of the new site and the Motoreetto CLAN as usual with an email to info@motoreetto.it.
In the meantime I remind you that we'll talk on Tuesday with Podcast Story In Moto and I'll see you on Thursday at 19 with the LIVEetto su Youtube.
I'm waiting for you and… Hit the gas but responsibly!
