As the guards are made by bike?

In our giacce and suits motorcycle are inserted certified protections that make them safe. I was BETAC where they are produced and asked for some advice…

When we buy a technical garment to ride a motorcycle we always focus on the external material, sul fitting, sul look, and we hardly ever pay attention to a fundamental aspect, that of protections.

And instead they are very important! Obviously they are for the aspects directly related to our safety in case of impact, but they are also because if well done they allow a better comfort and, as a result, greater ease in driving.

The issue emerged while chatting with friends of Moto One who have shown me the various types of protections they evaluate and choose for their garments. They told me about a Paduan company renowned for the production of protections, the Betac, and only then did I realize that I had seen that name a thousand times without ever investigating the issue of the production of protections.

Let's see how the protections are made

That I have been to Betac and I was told how the protections for motorcycles chosen by some of the major manufacturers of technical clothing are produced, brands known to all of us but that I cannot name and that I could not film for obvious reasons of industrial secrecy. Beyond the products “signed” from these brands, however,, Betac also produces protections under its own brand, like the ones used by Moto One. And those yes, I can show them and we can all evaluate them when we go to choose our garment.

Betac creates level protections 1 and level 2 for all the various positions and uses and is constantly committed to improving both the materials and their shapes, always focusing on greater lightness and protection along an ever wider range of temperatures. Making increasingly lighter and more performing protections affects our active safety, is passive.

I discovered a seemingly simple production that actually has many complexities and I thank Betac for giving me the opportunity to deepen the theme by making this video.

The advice is to also pay attention to the protections when we buy our motorcycle jacket or pants because they are not all the same at all. Let's look at the tag, we do our checks, we are increasingly responsible for what we buy. Good vision and good bike!

  1. Hello!
    Nice video.

But I've always been intrigued by one thing: there are snowboard back protectors that they respect (on paper, almeno) the same regulations as those for motorcycles, only that cost 30 € instead of 150, the 200. And I'm not talking about unknown Chinese, but of stuff sold by Decathlon and produced (on paper) in Francia.

I'd be curious to know what differences (in “performance”) There are (with the same regulations), of materials or durability; I always suspect that since we are motorcyclists, someone thinks we can be plucked (as it happens a little’ in any sector: aquarium shops sell normal plumbing stuff to 10 times the original price, per dire) and that sometimes the price of the things we buy is “politico” more than real.

    What do you think?
