When to go to the Zoncolan and to Sauris?

From May to September, every day is the right one. Remember that if you happen to be in Sauris in the second half of July you will come across the celebrations for its prized raw ham.

Distance and road

The itinerary that I recommend is about a hundred kilometers of well-asphalted road that forms a kind of “U” e che, then, if you want you can close in a circle with a quick link downstream that I have deliberately omitted to make you concentrate on the most beautiful part. Surely the most demanding part from the driving point of view is that of the Monte Zoncolan, steep and narrow climb entered into the myth of many cyclists. You will most likely encounter some in the area, so please respect them, I recommend. All other slopes are less harsh, but we are still in the Alps and a little’ of engine does not fail.

What to see between the Zoncolan and Sauris?

Monte Zoncolan is already an attraction in itself, you want for the road you want for the view in case of clear sky. To cross calmly is then definitely the Val Pesarina because there are unexpected glimpses ideal for some photos. Finally definitely Sauris worth a visit, especially if you are hungry…

The route soon

The Carnic Alps in no uncertain terms represent a fantastic setting for a nice motorbike trip. The roads here are quite demanding and must be taken into account especially if we are riding a small displacement or a motorcycle with several springs on the back.. In particular, the ascent to Monte Zoncolan, made famous by the Tour of Italy, it is one of the most difficult and you will realize what kind of leg and preparation the cyclists who face it must have (so remember: utmost respect for them!). Fortunately, we who are lazy have our beautiful scooter to take us on step and, in the case of the electric, we know that the energy expended uphill will be partially regenerated downhill. The east side, what comes from Sutrio to understand us, it is the one with minor slopes and therefore I recommend it. However, attention must be paid to the steep descent of the west side! After passing Ovaro we can instead enjoy the enchanting and little known Val Pesarina that takes us to Cadore. Before Casera Razzo we re-route the wheels towards Friuli and the Sella di Rioda and thus we reach the village of Sauris, famous for its raw ham which is celebrated in the second half of July with a very popular festival. Continue towards the lake of the same name and then descend towards Ampezzo.
