MotoE: considerations on the first test in Jerez

I followed, unfortunately at a distance, the first tests of the historical END Enel MotoE a Jerez, the trophy that will take place in 2019 with Energetic Ego Race and on which you should know by now all thanks to my article:

I followed, dicevo, with curiosity because it is a new formula on which there are many questions as it is totally new and have never seen anything like it.

For the first time teams and drivers they were confronted with a bike that had never seen or experienced before and that, per giunta, It does not have an internal combustion engine but electric.

MotoE: wet test, successful tests

The Jerez circuit has also welcomed the teams and riders with rain and rather low temperatures. Initially, therefore, the pilots found themselves in the position of trying not to push too. This, however, allowed him to see the grip offered by Michelin tires which though not to the level of those who use the French brand in MotoGP have met for the grip situation is not ideal. Michelin has provided a tire team dry and wet. The first has the front and the rear derivation MotoGP is practically similar to that employed in Superbike, thus a more close to that traded product.

There was to understand everything and find their way on everything: by charging times with the stations that Enel has made to the teams, the cooling of the batteries that is certainly one of the biggest challenges of this formula, alla Energetic Ego Race which it is a motion without gears or friction and still has an important weight as compared to other racing bikes.

For some pilots it had also to deal with the problem “rust”. I refer in particular to Sete Gibernau who returns to racing after a geological era, and that by his own admission says he must work hard on their preparation even more than on the bike.

Looking at the times, who quickly took confidence were Bradley Smith and Niki Tuuli followed by Mike Di Meglio is yes Mattia Casadei. Four of them are the only riders to turn in 1'50 and they are also the ones who have done more laps, as well as Matteo Ferrari that no coincidence is 5 °.

Instead Difficulties Maria Herrera that has managed to make just two sessions, and returns home with the disappointment of a major behind schedule and the awareness of not being able to work as wanted.

In this regard it must be said that each team had only one bike available and that therefore there was no way to reverse the setup, aspect on which definitely will work more in tests required by the 13 to the 15 March 2019.

After these first tests I would like to make a few remarks. The first concerns the times at which they have pilots shot. Some have immediately noticed – as did I. – which they are much higher Moto2 who performed the tests at the same time. In my view, however, this has a very relative interest. What matters it is that the drivers within the same category have similar times, and this is what we see in Motoe because for now the bikes are all identical. It will be interesting to see if someone will take profit or not and even more to see that the pilot will make a difference.

In such a technological trophy it will be the human component that will decide the winner at the end.

The second consideration concerns critics MOTOE regardless. We know that on the issue electric motorcycle there is much skepticism on the part of a big chunk of motorcyclists and it is understandable, but up to a point.

I understand that the electric motorcycle can not pleasure, on the other hand, there are riders who like the enduro and others who love the chopper, those two cylinders those four and so on.

But I do not understand why contempt for bias MOTOE when it is clearly more opportunity of fun for us fans of motorcycling.

I make it simple: next year we will have the chance to see a new trophy, unpublished, totally different, five races more in which pilots will race at par and the teams will face problems that do not know. So there will probably be several twists.

We will run together veterans and young talents, some drivers who probably would not have known who can showcase their skills.

Really all this is contemptible in the name of an alleged purist who demands a roar instead of a hiss?
